Weight Gain

Noun:

An increase in body weight. This can involve an increase in muscle mass, fat deposits, excess fluids such as water or other factors. Weight gain can be a symptom of a serious medical condition.

When you see photos and videos of people with The Cancer, they tend to look really frail and thin.

I genuinely thought the one plus side of having cancer would be that I would lose a bit of weight.  Not the case!  They pump you full of steroids, which make you look like Moon Face from Enid Blyton’s Magic Far Away Tree anyway, and then you just pile on the pounds.

Couple this with the fact that on a lot of days, you are in a dead slug chemo haze and probably move like a sloth, so are not burning any calories either.

Then…. They put you on hormone blockers after the end of your treatment, which guess what?  Makes you gain weight!

And don’t get me started on menopause weight gain….

I did eventually lose all of my cancer weight, after about 5 years, but I basically had to go on a starvation diet to achieve it.  Needless to say, most of it is back on again now.

Ah well, the fat irons out the wrinkles.  And better to be a bit fat than dead.
