Boobs

Noun – informal boob.  Plural noun: boobs

A woman's breast.

Obviously, when you have breast cancer, it’s all about the boobs.  I think as women we fall into 2 camps when it comes to our boobs.  Either we think our boobs are ok.  Certainly not in bad shape after having breastfed babies.  Still look ok in a push-up bra and they were fairly awesome on that beach in Corfu, back in the day, when you were young and brave enough to go topless.  Or, we don’t like our boobs, they have served their purpose.  They have seen better days and are currently only good for keeping our midriff warm.  But, I think we can all come together and agree that all things being equal, we’d rather not have them surgically removed.

However, all things are not equal, and being short of a boob or two and being alive is definitely better than the alternative.

So, we have to suck it up ladies.  Take a long hard look at your body.  Love it or hate it, it’s yours.  And when you look in the mirror for the first time after surgery, it will still be all yours.  Whether you’ve had a lumpectomy, a flat mastectomy, or a mastectomy and reconstruction.  It will be changed but it will still be bloody beautiful.  Scarred, bruised, definitely sore and probably with multiple drains hanging out of it.   You may feel like you have been run over by a steam truck, but soon you’ll feel better, the scars will fade, you will be stronger and you can look forward to your next holiday in Corfu.  With or without your baps out.

See how strong and positive I was there??
