Constipation

Noun: constipation

A condition in which there is difficulty in emptying the bowels, usually associated with hardened faeces.

Depending on your constitution, chemotherapy can either loosen or dry up your bowels.  If you are really lucky you may experience both, at varying points in the chemotherapy cycle.

If you are prone to constipation, I would strongly recommend you up the ante on poo-making food a few days before your first course.  Gentle laxatives are also a good idea.  Because, if you find on day 4 that you haven’t ‘been’ for a few days, on top of the chemo kicking in and you feeling generally like you want to crawl into a hole and die, a nice bloated tummy and constant belly ache might just tip you over the edge.

Be wise.  Be prepared.  Stay loose.
